Ex-AstraZeneca staff open CRO near to closed UK R&D site
Former AstraZeneca employees have created a niche drug discovery CRO near to the UK site the big pharma firm closed last year.
The CRO (contract research organisation), Aurelia Bioscience, is based 20 miles from the AstraZeneca site near Loughborough, UK that closed last year. Each of the three founders worked at AstraZeneca and is aiming to benefit from the shift towards the outsourcing of drug discovery work.
“We are witnessing the growth of drug discovery outside large pharmaceutical companies as the sector re-balances itself from centralised in-house research to outsourcing”, Gary Allenby, business development director at Aurelia Bioscience, said.
