The European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB) is setting up a trade office in Aarhus, Denmark for its activities in innovation and functional genomics, reports Biotech Denmark on its website.

Biomedico Forum, a network of biotech companies and researchers in the Aarhus area, has participated in making the agreement with EFB and the new trade office will operate under the auspices of Biomedico Forum.

According to Peter Kristensen of Proteo Target, one of the initiators in getting EFB to establish a local office in Aarhus, it is anticipated that the new hub will handle coordination tasks in connection with EU research programmes. EFB has its headquarters in Frankfurt and 2,900 members in 36 European and 37 non-European countries.

Invest in Denmark reported in February that Aarhus County Council granted Biomedico Forum DKK1 million to establish a secretariat, with the local municipality putting in an equivalent sum. The grants were given to establish a professional organisation for marketing the region and attempting to become a trade office for EFB, an ambition which it has readily fulfilled, concludes the 'Invest in Denmark' website.
