US company PerkinElmer was presented with the 2003 Analytical Instrumentation Company of the Year award by market research company Frost & Sullivan in a ceremony last night.

The market analysts cited PerkinElmer's 'leadership and commitment' to the analytical instrument market across a multitude of industries, noting that PerkinElmer products such as the ELAN® DRC II, Spectrum Spotlight Imaging System, and LABWORKS Enhanced Security (ES) Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) have made a significant mark in the instrument industry.

Praising the company, Shekar Gopalan, vice president of research at Frost & Sullivan said: "PerkinElmer's accomplishments in the analytical instrumentation marketplace can be attributed to its presence in diverse markets, its wide product portfolio, and innovative product line complemented by strategic acquisitions and divestitures.

"To be such a strong leader in so many different product segments is a distinction for the company in itself, and further justifies the reasons for being the recipient of this award."

Recognising the current difficult economic climate Gopalan noted, 'at a time when several vendors in the analytical instrumentation industry are in the throes of the severe economic downturn, PerkinElmer has uniquely managed to remain on track.'

Frost & Sullivan criteria for the award recipient included technological innovation and leadership, customer satisfaction and loyalty, market share growth, and success in executing a restructuring initiative.

"This award reflects the results of PerkinElmer's ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction and consistently developing innovative new products," said Gregory L. Summe, chairman and chief executive officer of PerkinElmer. "The Frost & Sullivan research also validates our strategy of extending our technology leadership deeper into the high-growth life and analytical science markets," he added.
