€100K award for Euro toxicology

Cefic, the European chemical industry council, has announced a
€100,000 prize for innovative research in the field of toxicology.

The organisation said that possible areas of research could include: alternatives to animal testing, studies on the vulnerability of specific groups (e.g. children, the elderly or pregnant women); toxicogenetics, toxicogenomics, bioinformatics; epidemiology related to chemical exposure; quantitative structure activity relationships (QSARs - a commonly-used approach to rational drug design); risk perception and communication; and bioremediation of environmental toxins.

The award, set up in conjunction with the Federation of European Toxicologist & European Societies of Toxicology (EUROTOX​), is open to applicants based in Europe and the deadline for submissions is 1 March, 2004, and while there is no age limit, "applications from early career scientists are particularly welcomed,"​ according to Cefic​.
