New player in pipette market

Indian companies may be making great strides in capturing international market shares for bulk pharmaceutical ingredients and generic drugs, but to date they have not made a great impression on the laboratory tool market.

Now, Fine Care Corp, based in Ahmedabad, has introduced a range of micropipettes and accessories and is seeking partners to distribute them in overseas markets. The company's Accumax digital variable-volume and fixed-volume micropipettes, spares, micropipette stand and disposable tips are pitched squarely at the clinical, research and industrial laboratories, throwing down the gauntlet to the likes of Gilson and Eppendorf.

The company said that the pipettes were two years in research and development before being brought to market. All the products in the range adhere to the international DIN 12650 standard for accuracy and reliability, and like their rivals offer forward and backward pipetting and a simple gauge to set the dispensing volume.

The range is colour-coded according to the volume range that can be dispensed with the pipette, which makes identifying the correct device easier if a number of pipettes are being used simultaneously. The smallest variable version can deliver between 0.5 microlitres and 10 microlitres, while the largest can handle volumes between 100 and 1000 microlitres.

Similarly, the capacities of the fixed-volume pipettes ranges from 5 microlitres to 1000 microlitres, depending on the model.

Fine Care also emphasises that the Accumax range can be stripped down and autoclaved if the pipettes need to be sterilised between uses.

The company is seeking additional distributors for the range around the world and is also interested in forging OEM (original equipment manufacturer) relationships. It will be displaying the range later this year at the ARABLAB 2004 meeting, scheduled to be held 9-12 December in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
