Comark products to get cross-contamination protection

A UK-based specialist in antimicrobial coating technology, BioCote, has entered into an agreement with Comark to develop more hygienic handheld thermometers and data loggers. The new products are intended for use in the pharmaceutical and food industries that make use of aseptic production processes.

The technology partnership will see a new generation of products that will be targeted in the pharmaceutical arena to research, manufacture, storage and distribution.

BioCote's eponymous anti-microbial treatment is being incorporated as part of a rolling programme for the instrument cases of Comark products. The anti-microbial technology is impregnated as part of the moulding process for components, providing intrinsic protection against the spread of potentially harmful organisms via cross-contamination.

"This will provide continuous, long-term surface protection to inhibit the growth or proliferation of microbes and dangerous pathogens," said the companies in a statement.

BioCote said that it protection is now increasingly being accepted as part of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) due diligence and health and safety system procedures, mandated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory bodies.

The products manufactured by Comark include temperature, humidity, pressure and pH measurement, including digital thermometers and temperature probes. Systems include the Icespy radio transmission equipment, Diligence EV loggers, the EVG graphic display monitor and the HACCP hand held auditor, said Comark.
