Banner tackles Japanese market
non-animal-derived softgel capsules in Japan for pharmaceutical and
nutritional applications.
The US-based company has forged an alliance with Rohto Pharmaceuticals to roll out Banner's EcoCaps Non-Animal Softgel capsules in Japan. Moreover, the companies said they intend to discuss forming a joint venture or other strategic alliance in the future to produce and market products using Banner's proprietary technologies within Japan.
Roger Gordon, Banner's chief executive, said that the launch of EcoCaps will answer "the growing regional demand for bovine-free food, drugs, and nutritional supplements" in Japan.
"Banner's extensive experience in soft capsule development and manufacturing will provide Rohto the immediate advantage of being able to market a number of non-animal softgel products within Japan," said Dr Gordon.
Softgels have become increasingly popular over the last few yeas, as they are perceived as being easy to swallow by consumers. And market research has suggested that consumers are willing to pay a premium for softgel products.
The EcoCaps range is made from plant carbohydrates, and are designed for use in products aimed at people seeking non-animal products for health, dietary, religious or animal rights reasons.
