Dessicant sachet dispensers cut costs

Active-Pak Automation claims that companies installing its dessicant sachet dispensing systems can achieve cost savings of up to 40 per cent compared to systems based on canisters, offsetting the capital costs of installing the machinery.

The company's dispensing systems automatically insert desiccant sachets at rates of up to 300 per minute, which it claims is faster than products from rival manufacturers. This means that adding the sachets does not compromise packaging line speeds.

"With sachets priced approximately 40 per cent below canisters, the cost savings of inserting desiccant sachets versus canisters quickly offsets the capital equipment investment," said the company in a statement.

To ensure optimal desiccation and drug stability, Active-Pak Automation also offers remote spool unwinders with gas purge capability to avoid packet exposure to moisture or oxygen. The portable gas flushed units encase the desiccant spool shielding it from moisture until it reaches feed line.

The company's equipment can be used in conjunction with horizontal flow wrappers, vertical/horizontal form-fill seal machinery, bottling lines, thermoformed/cold formed pouching machines and other packaging systems, and can run a range of sachet sizes from 15 to 50 mm in width and 30 to 100 mm in length.

Continuous desiccant reels such as Multisorb's StripPax desiccants take up less space in packaging than canisters and provide manufacturers with desiccant size flexibility. In addition, using StripPax sachet sizes avoids "double-drops" of rigid one-gram canisters and this adds to cost savings, according to Active-Pak.
