GE launches AKTA for process development
filtration systems with the launch of AKTAcrossflow for membrane
selection and process development at the research scale.
GE said that AKTAcrossflow is the first fully automated small-scale cross flow filtration system, linking the chromatography and membrane filtration steps, and thereby eliminating the need to perform multiple manual operations during process development.
The result should be an increase in workflow efficiency, according to the company.
AKTAcrossflow simulates large-scale conditions from cell separation to final concentration/diafiltration with no cell or protein disruptions.
"This solution addresses the industry need for an automated, reliable small-scale cross flow separations tool that simulates conditions experienced or anticipated at the industrial manufacturing scale," said Pieter Noordeloos, vice president of marketing, process development and manufacturing, at GE Healthcare.
The system can handle flexible sample volumes from millilitres to litresand comes with all the hardware, software and membrane devices included, including GE's UNICORN package that is used across its AKTA range.
UNICORN monitors and captures sensor data and real-time calculated parameter trends for cell concentration, cell harvesting/clarification and protein concentration applications.
