CI Electronics launches new pill weighers

UK company CI Electronics is rolling out a new tablet and capsule weighing system, the SADE SP, in North America via local distributor AC Compacting, reports Phil Taylor.

The range includes floor-standing units with hoppers for production and clinical trials batches as well as a bench top model suitable for smaller R&D and formulation batches.

The UK firm said that the range is specifically designed for use in GMP environments, and can sort most standard shapes and sizes of tablets and capsules - without the need for changing parts - to an accuracy within 1mg.

The Sade SP sorters are fitted with a new weigh head that CI Electronics claims improves weighing performance. The design of the new feed and sort mechanisms provides precision handling of the tablets/capsules on and off the weigh pan and assures consistent sorting accuracy in continuous operation, it adds.

Meanwhile, AC Compacting has also started distributing one of CI Electronics' benchtop sample check weighers, the QM-4BM, used to measure the individual weights of sample tablets and capsules taken from a tablet press or filling line.

The unit can check weights up to 2.5g per individual tablet or capsule, at a rate of 30 units per minute, and is suitable for use in-booth, sited centrally in the manufacturing area or the quality control laboratory, according to CI Electronics.

To operate the system, the user places the doses into the vibratory bowl feeder and then sets the machine running. The QM-4BM automatically weighs each one, calculates the statistical information and produces a printout that eliminates the need for the operator to manually record the data. The printout also records date, time and batch numbers.
