EaglePicher, Xcellerex win F&S awards
at a ceremony held last night by market analysis firm Frost &
Sullivan.
EPSS was named Pharmaceutical Services Company of the Year 'for developing superior product and service offerings and building key customer bases in the high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredients market', said F&S.
F&S analyst R P Bhaskaran said the company had been selected because of the breadth of its services, including radiolabelling and regulatory process execution, that allow it to handle high-potency commercial production volumes and cater to the changing needs of its clients.
One of the primary factors in making the selection was the fact that EPSS' API manufacturing service includes a manufacturing facility that features unique barrier technology in several isolated suites with dedicated trains of equipment, unlike many competitors who have several equipment trains all contained in a single room.
Biologics winner
Meanwhile, Xcellerex won the Biologics Manufacturing Technology of the Year award. The company has developed and is preparing to launch a portable, modular, disposable biomanufacturing technology - the XDR (Xcellerex Disposable Reactor) and FlexFactory Manufacturing Platform - that promises to improve product quality and regulatory compliance while decreasing costs
The XDR is a stirred tank disposable bioreactor that can be used for sterile applications including culture of mammalian, plant or insect cells, and potentially, microbial cultures. Its design is currently being optimised for mammalian cells. ts advantages over other disposable bioreactors include superior mixing options, and better equivalence and scalability relative to traditional stainless steel bioreactors.
In addition to cell culture, the impeller drive system is powerful enough for non-sterile mixing applications. Xcellerex has developed a mixing system - XDM - that will soon be available to the biotechnology industry.
"The biologics manufacturing industry has witnessed serious quality concerns, lack of process control, and process inefficiency in disposable bioreactors. Xcellerex has met this challenge by providing advanced disposable bioreactors with electronic batch records, process control, efficiency enhancement platforms, and stirred tank utility, said Bhaskaran.
