Lab-scale freeze-drier launched in UK

Biopharma Process Systems has introduced a new small-scale freeze-drying system to the UK and Irish markets manufactured by France's Usifroid.

The Compaclyo range is aimed at product R&D, manufacture of clinical trial materials and small production batches, according to BPS.

The units are compact and single skid-mounted so they can fit easily into the plant room using a minimum of space. The Compaclyo has a shelf area range from 1.5 square metres to 5.8 square metres and an ice capacity from 20 to 100kg. Options include hydraulic stoppering, steam sterilisation and clean-in-place functions, making it adaptable to most needs, according to the UK firm.

The process chamber, external condenser and doors are all constructed from stainless steel. All internal piping is welded or flanged. Systems using Sterilisation In Place (SIP) are designed to applicable codes and provided with required validation documentation.

The Compaclyo is supplied with the fully automated, validated and proven POLARIS 2 control system as standard. Designed to be user-friendly and based on Usifroid's proven expertise over numerous audited installations worldwide, the POLARIS 2 uses an Allen Bradley PLC as standard (Siemens is Optional) for flexibility and versatility.

The system provides complete control of all functions including automatic cycle control, batch reports, archiving and 21 CFR part 11 compliance, according to BPS.
