Thermo Electron introduces its new mass spectrometer, which uses a
linear ion trap delivering faster cycle times and improved ion
statistics. This latest addition to the ion trap product portfolio
is designed for use in both research and routine applications such
as drug discovery, proteomics and analytical quantitation.

"The Finnigan LXQ not only expands our family of ion trap mass spectrometers, it brings 2D performance to laboratories that had previously found this level of technology to be beyond their budget," said Iain Mylchreest, VP of Mass Spectrometry for Thermo.

"Now, laboratories will find the Finnigan LXQ to be an attractive option for high-throughput drug discovery and proteomics," he added.

Additional features include patented ion trap technology that delivers improved cycle times and ion statistics, resulting in increased sensitivity and high quality MS/MS spectra for structural identification.

A sensitive and versatile analytical system, Ion Trap Mass Spectrometry is capable of identifying both large and small molecules and determining their molecular structure.

This technique is required to address the complex mixtures of molecules found in many types of biological problems. Of fundamental importance to the biochemist and biologist is the existence of robust, and easy-to-use instrumentation for application to their studies.
