Tevopharm launches new flow wrapping control platform

Tevopharm, a Bosch Packaging Technology Company, introduces a new control platform for its Pack-2000 (BM) flow-wrapping machine. The controller is designed to enable users to comply with GAMP and 21 CFR Part 11 regulations when feeding or wrapping products such as syringes, vials, blisters and inhalers.

The one controller for Motion & Logic means fewer parts and components, with a lower risk of component failure, a problem with flow-wrapping machines due to their relative complexity and the rate at which machines of this nature work to.

Optimising speed without compromising accuracy and reliability is a multi-functional task, relying on critical sectors of the overall line to work in harmony.

The control platform is designed for the Pack-2000 BM, which focuses on the product/market combination and is based on the company's modular Pack-2000 B(ox) M(otion) and in all functions made fail safe in accordance with the general guidelines of the pharmaceutical market (GAMP).

The machine is cantilever built with a steel mainframe and stainless steel housing, with integrated electrical cabinet.

The actual Box Motion crimper unit for high seal integrity comes with crankshafts of 25, 35 and 50 mm, while the width of the machine 280 or 380 mm (from frontside backplate to centre of the infeedchain) ensures it is compact.

Digital electronic control with high-speed motion controller and digital servo drives the control platform, which is based on a Siemens of Allen Bradley PLC

Tevopharm have emerged as a main player for what has become a potentially lucrative market.

The use of flexible packaging to transport, distribute and market products such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and foods has expanded rapidly over the past decade and this trend is set to continue to rise.

The packaging industry is increasingly recognising the role of automation and effective system integration as the key to successful industrial bag filling and handling.

However, the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry are seeing packaging machinery companies consolidating in order to achieve the greater commercial strength and offer integrated systems, that allow companies to deal with a single supplier for an entire packaging workflow.

A prime example was the acquisition by Bradman Lake of the two UK packaging machinery engineers, Autowrappers and Europack.

The resulting company has become a major player in the UK packaging machinery sector, and a significant presence in Europe, though still smaller than major competitors such as Romaco, which have divisions specialising in pharmaceuticals.

Tevopharm will be showcasing a new control platform for flow wrapping at Achema 2006, which is taking place in Frankfurt, 15 - 19 May 2006.
