Busak and Shamban set the sealing standard at Interphex

Silicone product provider Busak and Shamban, showcased a variety of solutions at this year's Interphex event, highlighting the stringent demands made by the pharma industry are met by its range of sealing and bearing products.

The pharmaceutical industry understandably expect the highest of standards for seals bearings, custom molded parts, tubing, and membrane materials. This is because the materials coming into contact with the end product as well as those within the processing system must maintain integrity.

Busak and Shamban's Isolast material is suited for pharmaceutical processing applications that face attack from severe cleansing fluids.

Isolast is a member of the perfluoroelastomer family and are terpolymers of monomers in which all hydrogen atoms have been replaced by fluorine.

The absence of hydrogen in the molecular chain dramatically increases both the chemical and thermal resistance of perfluoroelastomers.

The Isolast perfluoroelastomer compounds comprise a range of materials which offer exceptional chemical resistance over a wide band of temperatures from -13°F to +617°F

This provides a host of advantages that include improved reliability cutting planned and unplanned maintenance cost as well as longer service life reducing costs and increasing productivity.

>Busak and Shamban said that the material could be used to manufacture a variety of sealing components including o-rings, pipe flange gaskets and custom shapes.

The company also took the opportunity to showcase its material made from a high temperature amorphous thermoplastic that offers improved performance due to its high temperature resistance, superior hydrolytic stability and chemical resistance to many commonly used acids and bases as well as compatibility with sterilisation techniques.

The material, called HiMod, is available in a range of types according to requirements. In addition, custom compounds can be developed to meet those unique bearing requirements where other bearings have failed to perform.

Finally, the company make available its Turcon range of products. This PTFE-based material has been designed for use in static and dynamic hygienic processing applications where CIP and SIP processes are in use.

Three compounds are available in the Turcon MF range and each is formulated to suit different applications and are available in a variety of standard and custom product types for static, linear, and rotary applications.

Sealing and bearing solutions must cope with extremes of aggressive media, temperatures and pressures in working operations, and the rigors of intensive cleaning processes involving aggressive chemicals.
