Quintiles to expand US central lab
central lab and its clinical services office in
Georgia to one location and expand capacity at the same
time.
The contract research organisation (CRO) said it will move its Global Central Laboratories based in Smyrna and its Clinical Development Services (CDS) office in Atlanta to a unique facility in Marietta, Georgia.
The Marietta site will more than double the combined space currently occupied by the two separate facilities and will allow the creation of 400 new jobs over the next four years, the company said, adding that the move was driven by "increasing demand for these services".
The new facility will be refurbished with the renovation works kicking off by September and the company expects staff to move during the second quarter of 2008.
"For our Global Central Laboratories, this is another expansion to accommodate the growth of our business, following the additions of labs in China and India and expansion of our lab in Scotland," said Dennis Gillings, CBE, Chairman and CEO of Quintiles Transnational.
"The increasing demand for our CDS and laboratory services is driving the need to expand, and we're taking this opportunity to bring our Atlanta units together to improve coordination and efficiency for our customers."
This announcement comes just three months after CRO launched its first Indian central lab in Ahmedabad.
Quintiles already runs similar laboratories in Europe, South Africa, China and Singapore.
Meanwhile, the firm is currently undergoing a major expansion at its US headquarters in North Carolina.
Quintiles said last December it will spend over $10m over the next six years to fund the expansion in Durham, which is expected to add 1,000 new jobs to the company's operations in the region.
