Packaging feeling effects of downturn, says Alcan pharmaceutical packaging president

Michael Schmitt, president of Alcan Global Pharmaceutical Packaging, believes a recovery in the global economy, the increasing demand for quality and the emergence of markets like India and Brazil will be key drivers for the packaging sector over the next few years.

Schmitt spoke with in-PharmaTechnologist at the Interphex 2009 conference and trade show in New York, US about the affect of the global downturn on the pharmaceutical packaging industry and set out his predictions for key shifts likely to impact the market in the next five years.

He also provided an update on parent firm Rio Tinto's long-running efforts to sell off Alcan's global packaging business.
