The workshops, which focused on raising packaging standards and achieving accreditation, were set up by USAID Jordan Economic Development Prorgram (SABEQ) and Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (JAPM).
By training companies about good manufacturing practices (GMP) and regulations JAPM and SABEQ believes Jordan can attract pharma investment and boost exports to established markets.
Speaking after the packaging workshop Hanan Sboul, secretary general, JAPM, said: "This workshop is expected to train participants on good documentation system, enable them to pass GMP audits related to packaging and printing, and will enhance traceability and decrease number of rejected cartoons and leaflets, accordingly decrease losses related to printing errors.”
As well as raising standards the workshop attempted to identify and resolve gaps between supply and demand in the packaging sector, with this being seen as an important step in global expansion.
The packaging workshop was preceded by training on cGMP guidelines, future legislations, inspection models and other issues related to gaining accreditation by international health authorities.
This forms part of SABEQ’s five year economic development plan, which hopes to support improvements in the business environment to help establish a powerful private sector in Jordan.
Sboul added: “This project will strengthen Jordanian pharmaceutical companies’ presence in the global pharmaceutical arena, and will support Jordan’s economy, through increasing exports, creating more jobs, and making alternative generic medicines available and affordable for Jordanian patients.”
