A former mayor joining Eli Lilly and new CEOs at three companies – People on the move

in-PharmaTechnologist presents its latest round up of appointments in the pharmaceutical sector, including a former mayor joining Eli Lilly and new CEOs at three companies.

Eli Lilly has appointed Bart Peterson, the former mayor of Indianapolis, as its senior vice president of corporate affairs and communications.

Peterson will lead a team dealing with international, federal and state government relations. Heserved two terms as mayor of Indianapolis from 1999 to 2007.

James Burns has been appointed as CEO of AssureRx. Burns has more than 30 years executive experience, most recently as CEO of EntreMed.

He was co-founder and president of MedPointe Pharmaceuticals and also established and ran Osiris Therapeutics.

Five Prime Therapeutics has appointed Julia Gregory as its president and CEO, replacing Gail Maderis, who is stepping down for health reasons.

Gregory was chief financial officer of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals from 2000 to 2008 and has more than 20 years experience as an investment banker.

Herve de Kergrohen has been appointed as CEO and director of Anavex Life Sciences. de Kergrohen has more than 25 years experience in senior and executive management positions at life science companies and venture capital firms.

Durect has appointed Joseph Stauffer as chief medical officer and executive vice president, corporate strategy. Stauffer joins the company from Alpharma and has previously worked at Abbott Laboratories and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

James Frincke has been appointed as CEO of Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals. Frincke joined the company in 1997 and most recently held the post of chief scientific officer.

Cannabis Science has appointed Mary Ruwart as vice president of R&D. Ruwart has previously worked at Upjohn prior to its takeover by Pfizer.

Melville Engle has been appointed as CEO of ThermoGenesis. Engle has previously worked for Raydiance, Dey LP and Allergan.
