Almac expands development offering with Xcelodose

Almac Pharma Services has bolstered its product development offering with a new Xcelodose 600s precision powder micro-dosing system that, it claims, can cut processing time, API usage and costs.

The UK contract manufacturing organisation (CMO) said that the technology will be installed and operational at its facility in Carigavon, UK by the end of next month.

The new system has the ability to dispense small quantities of fill formulations or active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) directly into capsules with a high level of accuracy.

Company technical development manager John McQuaid explained that the investment was motivated by changing demand and the adoption of new time saving strategies by early-phase manufacturing customers

Whilst Almac has always offered API in capsule shells, we now see examples of some clients maintaining this approach through to phase 2 studies in an attempt to compress their overall development timelines, requiring significant quantities of capsules for which an automated solution is best."
