Malaysia seeks to attract Indian pharma manufacturers

Malaysia is keen to attract Indian biopharm companies and is offering incentives and infrastructure to encourage firms to establish manufacturing operations, according to local media reports.

At the Bangalore India Bio 2010 conference, Iskandar Mizal Mahmood, CEO of the Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation (BiotechCorp), said he anticipates significant collaborations with Indian businesses.

This has begun with the forming of memorandums of understanding with BioCon and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories. Mahmood said the Dr Reddy’s deal includes the setting up of a manufacturing facility in Malaysia.

The country offers a strategic base for active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) producers, contract manufacturing and research organisations (CMO/CRO) and medical device and diagnostic firms, said Mahmood.
