Appointments at PRA, Integrium, Ecron Acunova, Parexel, Catalent and Brecon – People on the move

Outsourcing-Pharma presents its latest round up of movements in the pharma outsourcing space, including appointments at PRA, Integrium, Ecron Acunova, Parexel, Catalent and Brecon.

Parexel has appointed two former regulators as principal consultants. Toby Silverman joins after working at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for 20 years. Keith Watson previously worked at the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Brenda Reese has been promoted to vice president (VP) of business operations at DSP Clinical Research. Reese joined DSP in 2007 as director of monitoring. Before joining the company Reese worked at Precise Clinical Research, AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Catalent Pharma Solutions has made a number of executive promotions. David Heyens has been named as president, softgel technologies. Ian Muir has been appointed president, modified release technologies. Thomas Stuart, head of oral technologies, is to leave the company.

Also, Barry Russell, president of packaging services, is adding leadership of sterile technologies to his responsibilities. Will Downie is currently president, sterile technologies and will now focus solely on his responsibilities as SVP, global sales and marketing to accelerate revenue growth.

Mary Spellman has been hired to lead the newly created dermatology clinical research group at Integrium. Spellman is a dermatologist with 20 years of clinical research and drug development experience at companies including Revance Therapeutics, Biogen Idec and Novartis.

PRA International has appointed Hani Zaki as SVP of late phase services. Zaki has previously worked at Covance, PharmaNet and Rhone-Poulenc Rorer. Maria Harrison will continue to lead operational management as VP of late phase services.

Richard Wieland II has been named as EVP and chief financial officer at Unilife. Wieland joins from at Cytochroma and has also worked at Advanced Life Sciences Holdings.

Ecron Acunova has promoted Balaji Iyengar to the roles of country manager and CEO for its Indian operations. Iyengar joined Ecron in 2005 as a founding member and has 15 years of corporate experience.

Herbert Pomper has joined Brecon Pharmaceuticals as associate director, European business development. Pomper joines Brecon from Nycomed Austria and has also worked at Fresenius Kabi.
