BioStorage adds lab sample preparation services

BioStorage Technologies has added laboratory sample preparation services, such as sample aliquoting, to meet demand for end-to-end sample management.

Evolution in the outsourcing of sample management has increased demand for laboratory preparation services, says BioStorage. Integration of sample preparation services at sites in Germany and the US is designed to meet this demand while reducing costs and errors.

Many times, errors that can affect the results of laboratory tests occur in the pre-analytical phase”, said Cathy Michael, global head of sample management operations at BioStorage.

Following sample processing BioStorage allocates aliquots of blood or DNA for use in future testing. BioStorage uses its tracking and inventory management system, ISISS, for informed sample prioritisation.

By moving into sample preparation services BioStorage can help clients mitigate the risk of variables that can impact on sample integrity. Taking control of these aspects of sample management helps BioStorage ensure quality of samples it ships for laboratory testing.

Furthermore, BioStorage believes the additional services will ultimately lower costs for clients, in part by streamlining the sample preparation processes. Also, provision of sample renewal and extension process will help clients maximise samples for research and development.

This process ensures samples are removed, transported, processed and replaced to storage in a compliant, consistent and efficient fashion”, said BioStorage.

New services

BioStorage has added services covering nucleic acid extraction and verification, sample aliquoting and processing of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). These services are now offered at BioStorage facilities in Indianapolis, Indiana, US and Frankfurt, Germany.

To ensure the accuracy and precision needed for high-throughput screening and testing BioStorage is supporting all the services with automated liquid handling technology.
