Appointments at Agensys, Unigene, Medivir and Apitope – People on the move
Donald Rice has retired from his positions as CEO and president of Agensys, an affiliate of Astellas Pharma. Agensys was founded by Rice in 1996 and acquired by Astellas in 2007.
Rice will be replaced as president and CEO by Sef Kurstjens. Before taking the positions at Agensys, Kurstjens worked at Allergan and has also held positions at Pfizer and Astellas.
Unigene Laboratories has appointed Alex Martin to the newly created position of vice president (VP) of business development and head of commercial operations. Martin has 20 years of life sciences experience spent at companies including Affectis, BioXell and Novartis.
Charlotte Edenius has joined Medivir ABto take the newly created role of VP, research and development projects. Edenius joins from Orexo AB and has also worked at Biolipox AB and AstraZeneca.
Apitope International NV has named Hayley French as commercial director. For the past three years French worked at Novartis having previously held positions at Bird & Bird and the Centre for Applied Microbiology and Research.
Mariano García-Valiño has been appointed to the newly created position of corporate VP and VP, Latin America and Bausch + Lomb. García-Valiño has previously worked at Advent International, Pfizer, Eli Lilly and Disprofarma.
Arbor Pharmaceuticals has hired Laurence Downey as VP of medical affairs. Downey last held the position of CEO of Ketal Biomedical and has also worked at Solvay Pharmaceuticals.
Brent Atwood has joined BioStorage Technologies as VP of global sales. Atwood has previously worked at LifeWatch AG, Cerner Corporation and Computer Associates.
