Gerresheimer expands Indian presence with Mumbai office

Gerresheimer will open a representative office in Mumbai India this week as part of its growth strategy to capitalise in emerging markets.

The German packaging supplier plans to expand its pharmaceutical packaging and drug delivery systems business in India’s growing market using the new office to pursue this aim and to provide customer and technical services.

Speaking to in-PharmaTechnologist, Gerresheimer’s Jens Kuerten said, “The new office is not only an office, but a new Indian legal entity,” which leaves scope for the firm to conduct further activities in the region and beyond.

Describing India as a “very interesting market,” he explained that the country’s healthcare system is fast-developing, and so, internal demand for pharmaceutical products and packaging is on the rise.

Additionally, Kuerten suggested that a growing number of pharmaceutical companies are using India as a platform for making and filling products for the global, adding that it is Gerresheimer’s intention “to support and participate in this process.”

He also said the Mumbai office is part of a wider plan to “step up” Gerresheimer’s customer and technical services operations, adding that it will create new support jobs for people with “local expertise.”

Emerging markets

Kuerten also gave an insight into Gerresheimer’s global growth ambitions, adding that: “We see a lot of opportunities, not only in India, but in South America, China, Russia, and other countries.”

Gerresheimer ’s target is to achieve above average growth in the emerging markets, which currently generate around 10 per cent of the firm’s global sales revenues. “We want to double this figure within the next three years,” said Kuerten.
