The drug giant has cited insufficiencies in the development of the manufacturing process as the driver behind its voluntary recall which affects the cherry and grape flavored medicines.
This withdrawal is the latest in a series of J&J product recalls which most recently saw its anti-cancer drug Velcade and its children’s Tylenol and Motrin medicines removed from shelves for several months this year.
The company’s Benadryl website stated that this is a wholesale and retail level recall, requiring no action to be taken by consumers or healthcare providers.
"This recall is not being undertaken on the basis of adverse events," the company said.
The Children’s Benadryl allergy Fastmelt tablets, in cherry and grape flavours, were distributed in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, Belize, Barbados, St Martin and St Thomas, while the junior- strength Motrin caplets, 24 count, was distributed in the US, said J&J.
