Capsugel sees demand for capsule filling tech improve in 2010

Demand for high-end capsule filling technologies, particularly those used for early clinical development projects, has increased in 2010 according to Capsugel.

in-Pharmatechnologist spoke with Capsugel director of pharmaceutical technology David Edwards at AAPS 2010 in New Orleans, who explained that it is becoming easier for customers to access financing for capital investment.

My gut feeling is that the market has started to pick up a bit,” he suggested, adding that Capsugel is seeing more interest from its pharma customers in deals that enable them to pay for filling technologies over a number of years.

Edwards went on to predict that, for both the powder and liquid markets, the trend for drugmakers to outsource manufacturing is also likely to increase contracting sector demand for filling technologies.
