The firm, a subsidiary of software giant Intel, said that RTOS will help meet Fedegari’s pharmaceutical industry customers meet the diverse range of efficiency, compliance and certification challenges.
Wind River cited US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA) good manufacturing practice (GMP) regulations as an example, adding that capacity for adjustment is an important part of the process.
“[Sterilisation] requires, real-time monitoring and adjustment of parameters such as temperature, pressure and humidity as well as the flow of air and water,” it explained, suggesting that this requires “a stable architecture to ensure consistent and reliable performance.”
Off the shelf hardware
Fedegari selection of the VxWorks RTOS means its drug industry customers can opt for a range of different platforms, each of which are based on commercial off the shelf (COTS) components which all support the operation system.
This is a significant advantage according to Fedegari CEO Giuseppe Fedegari, who claimed that: “There are no other sterilisation equipment manufacturers that can offer COTS hardware and controllers that are infinitely versatile but not customer programmed for each machine.”
