MWV is offering packaging machinery modifications to support pharmaceutical clients switching to preservative-free pumps.

Changes to filling machines and reconfiguration of lines are needed to move to a new delivery system and the associated cost and time can deter companies from making the switch. To help these clients through the process MWV is offering filling machine modification support services.

By offering machinery modification, we’re helping our customers meet a market need, maximize the life of their machines and reduce additional capital requirements”, said Sven-Uwe Hoehm, vice president and managing director, medical plastics at MWV Healthcare.

MWV engineers partner with clients throughout systems design, development, construction, installation and training. These engineers customise clients’ equipment to meet their needs and can also recommend process development changes to improve production line efficiencies.

By offering these services MWV hopes to help clients transition to its preservative-free spray pumps (PFP). MWV is marketing its PFP range at biopharm interested in extending commercial exclusivity by reformulating a product to remove a preservative and use a novel delivery device.

Our PFP line of products is a great delivery solution for companies removing preservatives from their formulations, and now we can offer machinery redesign to aid in their transition”, said Hoehm.

Patient compliance

A Novartis product using MWV’s Shellpak has won the Compliance Package of the Year Award. Novartis Diovan HTC won the award, in part, for using the space provided by Shellpak to educate patients about the importance of adhering to dosing plans.

The package is well thought out, facilitating patient compliance and adherence, supporting patient education and regulatory requirements, while at the same time creating a convenient format for the end user”, said Justin Schroeder, senior director at Anderson Packaging.

MWV has also joined with the National Consumers League to raise awareness about the consequences of failing to comply with dosing plans. The campaign, called Script Your Future, provides practical tools, such as medication lists, to support patient compliance.
