US CRO Quintiles says that demand for rapid access to clinical trial data is driving the development of vendor neutral management systems.

Outsourcing-pharma.com spoke with Paula Brown Stafford, Quintiles’ president of clinical development at DIA 2011, who explained that today’s sponsors want to know a candidates viability and safety profile as quickly as possible.

In the past it used to take six months to anaylse data and draw conclusions…now customers want it [trial data] in six days or six hours.”

This, she continued, was a key motivation for the contract research organisation’s (CRO) efforts to develop a system, Quintiles’ Infosario, capable of pulling together data from disparate sources and analyse it in near real time.

Data exists in silos. It is in multiple systems and it is not an easy task to integrate and normalise it into one view,” she added, suggesting that while multiple systems are available most focus on analysing data after a trial is completed and therefore do not meet the sector’s rapid access requirements.
