Addition of capacity for 2,200 pallets in chilled conditions, +2ºC to +8ºC, follows the doubling of cold-chain capacity at its UK warehouse in June. The new site in Oss, the Netherlands, due to open in April 2012, will also house capacity for 350 pallets at -20ºC to meet demand for blood plasma storage.
“We are investing…throughout Europe and with our constantly growing network cover all of the important regions in order to offer our customers location advantages and secure the supply of pharmaceuticals”, Alexander Paasch, spokesperson for Movianto management, said.
Most of the Oss warehouse will be dedicated to ambient temperature storage, at +15ºC to +25ºC, for 17,700 pallets. Capacity for 1,100 pallets of narcotics is also on site. In June Movianto doubled narcotics capacity at its warehouse in Bedford, UK.
Movianto will use the Oss site as a central European warehouse. Last month Movianto created a new business unit, Transport Solutions, to link its central European warehouse to clients’ production plants and, at the other end of the supply chain, hospitals, pharmacies and wholesalers.
The final element of the Oss warehouse is a mezzanine with 1,300 sq m of good manufacturing practice (GMP) repackaging and relabeling capacity. Again, the UK site also gained capacity for kitting, relabeling and repackaging in its June expansion.
In between expanding the UK site and detailing plans for its Oss warehouse Movianto added capacity in Neunkirchen, Germany. The €10m ($14m) expansion added a 10,000 sq m storage and production area, and country-specific repacking and relabeling processes.
