GSK to launch manufacturing skills apprenticeships

GSK will launch an apprenticeship programme later this year to train young people in a range of industry disciplines, including manufacturing, R&D and supply chain management.

The scheme – which is detailed on GSK’s website - will be available at sites across the UK and will comprise both on the job training and academic study modules and could lead to a full time job for candidates who demonstrate “the skills and behaviour” the firm is looking for.

GSK already runs a series of graduate and undergraduate recruitment schemes, which will continue to run alongside the new apprenticeship programme.

The focus on production and manufacturing skills also fits with the UK drug major’s recent policy of bringing some manufacturing work back in house – rather than outsourcing it to third parties – to boost efficiency.
