Merck Sereno spares Swiss plants from deepest cuts

Merck Serono has spared its Swiss manufacturing facilities from the most severe of its cuts but will reduce headcount.

Production plants in Aubonne and Corsier-sur-Vevey will stay open despite Merck KGaA closing the Swiss-headquarters of Serono. Across the two sites, plus another in Coinsins, Merck will cut 80 jobs, although 130 manufacturing staff will move to Aubonne after closure of its Swiss headquarters.

Regrettably, these planned measures include the closure of our headquarters in Geneva, which would result in workforce reductions and the redeployment of certain Switzerland-based functions to other Merck locations”, Stefan Oschmann, Executive Board Member of Merck.

Closure of the Geneva headquarters will result in the loss of 500 jobs.
