EMD Millipore premiered a new single-use bioreactor at Interphex 2012, claiming the new design addresses industry demand for ease of use and flexibility.
Mani Krishnan told in-Pharmatechnologist.com that the technology – the Mobius CellReady 50 L single-use, stirred tank bioreactor – was developed after the firm spoke with the industry and identified some common challenges manufacturers face.

One of the innovations EMD Millipore introduced as a result of these discussions was a hard shell base, which Krishnan said minimises the number of wells under the liquid line, reduces the number of connection points and makes for easier installation.

The other key feature of the system is the use of non-integrated sensors.

“Instead of putting the sensors in the bioreactor itself…we essentially put the sensors in an external loop,” Krishnan continued, explaining that this means customers can buy the base bioreactor unit and then configure the sensors according to specific requirements.
