Outsourcing-Pharma.com presents its weekly low down of the movers and shakers in the world of pharmaceuticals, including news from Parexel, Ricerca, and CSC.

Parexel​ has named Mark Goldberg​ its new president after Josef von Rickenbach ​stepped down from the position earlier this month.

Goldberg takes the helm after serving as chief operating officer since 2008, and for the firm in gerenal since 1997. In addition to his new role he will continue as COO.

Though no longer president, von Rickenbach will continue to serve as chairman and CEO.

Preclinical biopharma contract research organization (CRO) Ricerca Biosciences​ has drafted in Lynn Miesel​ as technical director.

Previously, Miesel worked for Merck Research Laboratories as the biology collaboration lead of infectious disease research. Other fields of expertise includes genetics, biochemistry, and microbiology.

Ricerca Biosciences VP of discovery pharmacology Jamie Baumgartner said: “Dr. Miesel’s expertise will be invaluable as we continue to expand our pharmacology reach within the industry.”

CSC ​has boosted its European regulatory services with the addition of Paul Herd​ as business development executive.

He joins the firm from Octagon Research where he was senior sales and marketing director for Europe.

Of his new role, he said: "The global life sciences industry, as with many industries, is under extreme pressure to reduce resource costs but still maintain and improve productivity. CSC​ provides substantial regulatory experience and industry leading technologies to help its clients meet their austerity challenges.”

Robert Rieder​ has announced he will step down as chairman at Akela Pharma​.

He said he takes leave of the role – which he has served in for three years – to focus on his position as CEO and director of ESSA Pharma.

Lemler Capital Advisors’ Seth Lemler​ will become the new chair.

Digital healthcare marketing agency Tonic Design​ has appointed James Burke​ as managing director.

In his new role, Burke will take charge of the firm’s international growth plan.

Brian Brossman, co-founder, said: “Jim is an account guy who truly understands the creative process and has a great respect for ideas and innovation – which makes him a perfect fit for our agency.”

Medical communications agency Science Branding ​has hired Bernie Coccia​ as executive VP and partner.

Bill Hahn, president, said: “Bernie will play a valuable role in Science Branding Communications’ strategic marketing, client supervision, and new business development activities, as our organization adds new clients and innovative science communication programs”.
