SAFC to be renamed under Sigma-Aldrich business rejig

Sigma-Aldrich has announced a plan to realign its business operations along regional and customer-focused lines.

The realignment – which will come into effect on January 1 next year – will see Sigma’s fine chemicals unit, SAFC, renamed as the SAFC Commercial Markets Business Unit.

Current SAFC head Gilles Cottier will continue to lead the renamed unit, which will provide custom manufacturing services to both the life science sector and the electronics industry.

Sigma’s other businesses will be split between the two new Applied Markets and Research Markets units. Further details will be disclosed in the firm’s Q4 results release.

The last customer-focused reorganisation at SAFC saw the firm combine its chiral screening and small-scale purification services business to cater for growing drug industry demand for outsourced chemistry services.
