Icon teams with EHR speclalist Cerner

Icon claims its collaboration with electronic Health record (EHR) specialist Cerner will help drug and device makers streamline data collection.

The collaboration – financial terms of which were not disclosed – will see the Dublin, Ireland-based contract research organisation (CRO) use Cerner’s Discovere web platform to manage and research data from late stage studies.

Discovere Late Phase is a highly scalable and flexible platform that is able to support late phase study management and provides sponsors with the ability to capture research data across multiple research sites,” said Elizabeth Thiele, president of Icon’s Late Phase & Outcomes Research division.

She added that: “Cerner's Web-based research solution was built to accommodate the diversity of late phase studies, an improvement over other technologies that may have been retro-fitted from cumbersome legacy systems.”

Icon is the second CRO to announce a partnership with Cerner – the other being Quintiles which teamed up with the software firm in 2009 to create “an integrated solution for areas including patient registries, post-approval and late phase trials and observational studies.
