Synthesis Med Chem Sets Up UK lab

Synthesis Med Chem has opened a UK facility in an effort to win more pharma and biotech customers in Europe.

The Australian firm already operates a facility in Melbourne and a second unit in Shanghai, China chose to set up the new lab at Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge, to provide customers with local management for all synthetic and medicinal chemistry projects.

Spokesman Simon Bury told Outsourcing-pharma.com the unit “will provide a full range of expert medicinal chemistry capabilities in the UK to complement our synthetic chemistry capabilities in Shanghai.

He added that: “Our chemists will act as project managers for all medicinal chemistry and synthetic chemistry projects” going on to say that “at the outset two people will be based at the site, but we anticipate that this will increase significantly as business ramps up.

We have already landed a new medicinal chemistry project from a UK-based organisation since opening our doors at Babraham.”

Bury declined to name any of Synthesis’ existing European customers or any of the new ones it hopes to attract, but did say that the firm works with a broad range of companies, both large and small.

We have worked with a number of organisations in Europe ranging from academic groups and non-profit organisations to mid-size and large pharmaceutical & biotech companies to date.

He reiterated that: “Having a local presence will give our European customers a local point of contact enabling seamless communication between Synthesis and our customers.”
