Partnering with airlines is essential, says CSafe executive, as the company signs an agreement to use LOT Cargo’s to airplanes to transporttemperature-sensitive biologics.

LOT Cargo, a Polish air transport company, announced an agreement with CSafe Global, a company producing cold chain packaging for biologics.Under the agreement, CSafe will transport biologics in its temperature-controlled containers using LOT’s aircrafts.

The agreement includes CSafe’s RAP and RKN containers designed especially for air transport, which, according to the company, offer ‘the industry’s longest’ battery run times and ‘broadest’ ambient temperature operating ranges from -30°C to +54°C for RAP and from -30°C to +49°C for RKN.

While transporting biologics on aircrafts, supply chain providers face challenges related to freight packing and flight maximization, according to Shea Vincent, global product manager at CSafe.

“There is limited space on the airplane and limitations on air traffic moves, so the airline has to make the most out of every shipment,” Vincent told us, adding that RAP and RKN are designed to lock directly into the cargo hold of an airplane and act as air cargo equipment.

However, the RAP container can, according to the company’s executive, hold almost four times more product than the CSafe RKN, while taking up less room on the aircraft.

Commenting on the agreement, Vincent told us: “Partnering with airlines is essential for customer service continuance. The company also provides training for all operatives and keeps “continuously open lines of communication,” to ensure the safety of the shipment.
