Produced by clinical trial software firm Florence Healthcare, the awards program seeks to recognize the contribution research professionals make to the industry.

The recognition initiative, named for the company and legendary nurse Florence Nightingale, is calling for nominations of ‘inspiring’ clinical research professionals. The 2020 award coincides with the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is credited with pioneering the field of nursing.

Blake Adams, vice president of marketing for Florence Healthcare, told Outsourcing-Pharma that the awards seek to recognize the dedicated clinical research professionals that continue the nurse’s pioneering spirit.

Inspiring clinical researchers embody the characteristics set forth by Florence Nightingale,” he said. “Researchers who are compassionate, innovative, sincere, gutsy, creative, determined, generous and empowered are all worthy of nomination for the Florence Effect initiative.”

Adams also told us while celebrating the hard work of clinical trial workers is always important, recognition is especially crucial during the global pandemic.

Research is vital to advancing cures; in the face of COVID-19, this is evident as studies are launched around the world to discover vaccines that can prevent the spread,” he said. “At the same time, clinical research in other areas must continue to advance cures in other disease areas like oncology.”

Clinical researchers are on the front lines of both the fight to prevent and treat COVID-19, and to continue developing therapies for other ailments.

Celebrating these individuals and the sacrifices they make so we can all have a better quality of life is important,” Adams said.

For each nomination received, the organization will make a donation to Greater Gift, an organization that builds industry awareness, and thanks clinical trial workers for their sacrifices.

Greater Gift is focused on elevating clinical trials, celebrating patients who participate, and delivering vaccines to those who need them most,” Adams told us. “We partner with them to elevate clinical research as a whole and help increase the number of participants in research so we can expand to the 97% of eligible patients who do not participate.”

When the nomination process closes at the end of May, the individual with the most votes will receive a $500 American Express gift card from the Florence Effect. For more information or to nominate a clinical trial worker, visit https://bit.ly/2zmYq7h.
