Cottoner doubles packing speed

NJM/CLI has launched a second product in its range of cottoner
systems for the pharmaceutical and nutraceuticals packaging
industries.

The new twin-head CL 200 Cottoner - intended for high speed pharmaceutical and nutraceutical packaging lines - has a pair of two-station cotton insertion pushers and a servo driven feedscrew. It can reliably insert a predetermined length of cotton, rayon or polyestercoil at a speed of up 220 containers per minute, according to the company.

This is nearly twice the throughput of NJM/CLI's older CL 110 Cottoner, and provides a system that works at the speeds attained by some of NJM/CLI's other systems, including the recently launched Cremer Quad Sampler tablet counter, which debuted at Packexpo in October and can handle up to 220 containers per minute.

The CL 200 is a heavy-duty stainless steel unit that features a patented guillotine tearing device and pinching blade cotton transport system. Compared to traditional scissor-type cutting devices that require sharpening and complex double-roller cotton transport systems, the CL 200 reduces maintenance and achieves a more smooth and quiet operation, claims NJM/CLI.

The CL 200 can insert one, two, three or more shots of cotton, polyester or rayon up to eight inches in length each. It handles containers from 2.5 to 8 inches in height and from 1 to 4.5 inches in diameter. Up to 24 product recipes can be set-up and stored, allowing the system to automatically adjust needed machine settings during changeovers.

"Operators can easily accomplish a container size change over in only ten minutes with no tools required," said the company in a statement.
