Protein purification made simple

The new HisTrap FF crude (1 ml and 5 ml) columns enable fast, reliable and simple one-step purification of histidine-tagged recombinant proteins directly from unclarified cell lysates, according to GE, and also minimise the need for sample pre-treatment.
Sonicated cell lysate can be directly loaded onto the column, eliminating the need for a clarification step (centrifugation or filtration) and cutting the time it takes to carry out the purification process. This makes them ideal for researchers working with proteins easily degraded by proteases in the cell lysate, said GE.
"The elimination of the pre-treatment stage offers scientists substantial time savings," said Allan Simpson, vice president of research & analysis, protein separations, at GE Healthcare.
He also noted that as they are prepacked, the columns will be easier to work with for customers with limited experience in protein purification. Novices "will be able to achieve reliable reproducibility during purification of histidine-tagged proteins," he said.
HisTrap FF crude columns are prepacked with Ni Sepharose 6 Fast Flow media and can be used with any chromatography system, a laboratory pump, or a simple syringe. The medium is compatible with a wide range of reducing agents, detergents and other additives. In combination with negligible leakage of nickel ions, histidine-tagged protein purification is conveniently performed resulting in pure, active protein.
