Novis is currently seeking experts to develop as science
journalists across several of its pharmaceutical and food industry
news services.

Each recruit will receive early and complete training in story structure and style, and quickly be given the chance to initiate his or her own news stories and interviews.

Candidates will already show strong writing skills and an ability to work well under pressure, and might, ideally, have already had some journalistic or science writing experience.

One of the appointments is for a food science reporter, for which we seek someone with a food technology, biology or medical background, capable of bringing expert understanding to scientific papers, but also with an aptitude for translating deep science into accessible and appealing news copy.

A more senior appointment is that of chief pharmaceutical reporter. Candidates for this job should have had several years experience within pharmaceutical manufacturing, and be fully abreast with the main challenges that arise in selecting and employing pharmaceutical industry technology

The most senior appointment is that of editor for one of Novis' pharmaceutical/chemical news websites. For this job, only an exceptional candidate will be drawn from outside the world of pharmaceutical journalism. Any candidate will need an advanced knowledge of management issues, strong networks in the industry and a demonstrable track record of published material.

All candidates should have a keen interest in science-based news and a commitment to providing the kind of key information that aids the best possible business decisions. Applicants should have a positive and innovative outlook, a rampant curiosity and a desire to get to the heart of every subject they cover.

The group's food industry journalists are based in the Montpellier newsroom, and the pharmaceutical and chemical industry journalists in Montpellier and in the group's second newsroom in London. The group also has foreign correspondents filing from Asia, central and eastern Europe, and other regions.

The news operation is led by editor-in-chief, Jenny Luesby, who, with more than 20 years experience in journalism at the FT, BBC and EIU, is also an international trainer of business journalists and author of the FT's handbook on business journalism.

The Montpellier and London newsrooms are the bi-polar the hub of the group's training programme, with intensive coaching, skills development and group training in all areas from Internet research skills to reading company accounts.

You need not have worked in online journalism before. Similarly, you need not have fluent French, although it will be an advantage for a Montpellier posting.

Novis is a rapidly expanding and award-winning media group, with a global network of journalists. This post offers excellent career and travel prospects.
