Bio-Tek and LI-COR strike microplate stacker deal

Bio-Tek Instruments and LI-COR Biosciences announce the integration
of Bio-Tek's Bio-Stack Microplate Stacker to LI-COR's new Aerius
Automated Infrared Imaging System, a microplate reader providing
automated data analysis of In-Cell Westerns.

Today's microplate automation spans the range from multi-channel pipettes to large, robotic HTS systems. One type of automation is the microplate stacker that allows the unattended loading and unloading of microplates to automated devices for batch processing.

Bio-Stack is the result of Bio-Tek's research into microplate automation. Bio-Stack's small footprint fits in most standard laboratory hoods without the need for a computer. The Bio-Stack provides life science laboratories with cost-effective automation for increased throughput in genomics, proteomics and drug discovery applications.

The Aerius Automated Infrared Imaging System is designed for protein discovery using infrared plate-based assays. The Aerius builds on the LI-COR's Odyssey two-channel infrared detection system adding a fast microplate reader capable of handling up to 30 microplates in a single run.

Infrared detection on the Aerius is noted for quantitative analysis of proteins. The Aerius system provides fully automated data analysis of In-Cell Westerns for one-touch, walk-away automation. The Aerius also scans Western membranes for antibody validation using a membrane carrier. Two-colour scanning allows for simultaneous detection of two protein targets or the use of one channel for normalisation. The system allows for fully automatic or interactive analysis of scanned images.

Teaming up the Aerius System with the Bio-Stack Microplate Stacking System using the Aerius software allows the scanning of up to 30 microplates per run. Express run templates allow researchers to save scan configurations for an entire stack of plates. The Aerius also features an internal bar code reader and a COM interface for incorporating the system into small-scale laboratory automation.

"A complete protein discovery workstation, combining the Aerius and Bio-Stack instruments, offers biologists both optimal data quality and throughput. Extreme sensitivity and qualitative analysis is afforded," said Gary Barush, marketing & sales director at Bio-Tek.

Bio-Tek Bio-Stack Microplate Stacker and LI-COR's Aerius Automated Infrared Imaging System are now available from LI-COR and Bio-tek's websites.
